Rules & Regulations

The “Move Mining” Competition (“Competition”) is designed to give people ages 10 and older the chance to explain their idea to change the world’s perception of an industry that’s already changing the world – mining. The idea could be a winner if it’s powered by science, technology, or math, and is creative about the kind of innovations we’ll need to change the perception of mining on a global level.

Competition entrants will explain their idea in a video. From the video submissions, the Top 5 Finalists for this season’s contest will be announced and will present their concepts at the MINEXCHANGE 2022 SME Annual Conference & Expo.

You can enter the Competition as an individual or as a team of up to five (5) members. All team members must be in the 10 years and over age group at time of entry. Teams with individuals who do not meet those age requirements will be disqualified, and their Submissions will be void. For purposes of these Official Rules, Individuals and Teams shall collectively be known as “Entrants.” Teams comprised of individuals 18 years and younger must have a parent, guardian or adult team sponsor as the primary contact for the team and as a mandatory presenter at the MINEXCHANGE 2022 SME Annual Conference & Expo.

Your video can be as simple as a shot of you explaining your idea, or as elaborate as an animation showing how it’s all going to work. It’s up to you! But the video must be produced by you, the Entrant, and be about your idea.

Videos must be submitted in English.  For help with translating your concept into English, see details in the next section (FAQs—What are the language requirements for submission?).

Here’s how it works:

No purchase necessary to enter or win.

Preliminary Judging Period

Videos will be reviewed by a panel of industry experts. Four (4) videos will become the “Competition Finalists.”

The concept videos submitted for the Move Mining competition are evaluated by a rigorous two-step process.

Evaluation Process 1 validates that the video and abstract meet the basic criteria for submission. The basic criteria includes:

Who? – does the video/abstract identify the target audience?
What? – does the video/abstract include an executable (something that can be created, built, implemented, etc.)?
Where? – does the video/abstract include where the end user can engage with the executable (is it tangible, is it web based, is it an activity)?
Why? – does the video/abstract identify the messaging behind the executable?
How? – does the video/abstract include a rough budget and project plan?
Evaluation Process 2 determines, from the qualified videos, the top 4 video submissions. The criteria for judging includes:

Content (The content includes a clear statement of purpose and the statement of purpose is clearly presented. A rich variety of supporting visuals in the video contribute to the understanding of the main idea.)
Organization (Concept, message or ideas are presented in a logical order. Video has a definite flow and focus.)
Audio Quality (Audio and other enhancements were highly effective in improving the concept delivery.)
Visual Quality (The video was very well edited. Scene(s) are clear, properly lit and the overall video shows competent use of video recording equipment.)
Emotional Appeal (Effectively appeals to audience emotions (happiness, surprise, compassion, humor, etc.) to achieve the persuasive goal. Vivid and emotive language, actions or visuals effectively used to engage the audience emotionally.)
Evidence of Research / Credibility (Information and data are used effectively to strengthen the concept. Supporting data establishes credibility and authority of the concept. Information presented is well researched and accurate.)
Impact (Resonates well with the audience and concept clearly identifies how it changes the perception of mining.)

Both evaluation processes include internal and external reviewers.

People’s Choice Finalist

The video with the most “likes” during the Voting Period (noon M.S.T. on 11/17/21 to noon M.S.T. on 11/30/21) shall be deemed the People’s Choice Finalist.
